Find the IP address of the computer on your home network that you want to connect to. Open your router's configuration screen and forward TCP port to the destination computer's IP address. This is accomplished by opening a browser, I think the issue has finally been resolved. I was always able to connect using Remote Desktop port was open and forwarded properly. The problem was the disconnect. The connection previously lasted about 5 minutes.

I am able to connect for more than 2 hours at a time. Thansk to all for teh suggestions. Hm, I wouldn't expect the connection to just kill itself after minutes if there was some type of packetloss. While it could you'd likely see some other affects first. Do you have your work machine setup to disconnect inactive sessions?

Possible a firewall on either end that's killing the connection? I have checked the firewall. This used to work before we switched to Comcast. Perhaps the firewall on the client side needs to be looked at. I really don't know at this point. I have now connected the computer straight to the router. I have bypassed the switch. I am testing. No such luck, RDP disconnected after 5 minutes.

Computer was connected directly to the router. There aren't too many firewall settings to play with either on the router. I have spent time with Comcast on the phone. They suggested updating the firmware on the router. It turns out that the router could not have firmware updated. A new router will be installed on Tuesday. Although I have to cover all my bases, I don't think this will fix the problem. Glad to hear that your problem was ultimately resolved and you are now all set.

Thread starter lightsout Start date Dec 28, Joined Mar 15, Messages 1, I have used Remote Desktop literally for years and basically everyday to connect to my headless media server. Today when connecting to it I am having all sorts of issues. I am either losing the signal to my monitor, which I thought was the cable or a loose port. Or the system will freeze, the mouse still moves, but its locked up.

Ctrl alt del or alt tab does nothing. It is for sure RDP thats doing it. The system is fine until I log in to the other PC. It may happen instantly it make take 5 minutes, but its happened about 10 times today. My main PC is updated, both running win 10, the server has updates disabled.

Any ideas. I did something I found through google with gpedit. Joined Oct 7, Messages 39, Yes I have. It's at the point now that instantly when I last connected the system froze. But really odd as the mouse still moves. I don't at the moment have a second PC.

I will tomorrow when my ram comes back from RMA. Will try from another machine. Snowknight26 Supreme [H]ardness. Joined May 8, Messages 4, Does the server have a GPU? What RDP version is being used for the connection might have to check event viewer for that? Have you tried with RDP hardware acceleration turned off?

What specific group policy changes did you make that didn't work? The reason the mouse moves is because it's rendered on the guest side, not on the host. Just to be clear, you mean that the guest machine freezes, not the host that you're connecting to, correct?

Snowknight26 said:. Click to expand Since I'm still not sure if the guest or the host is freezing, try updating your GPU drivers on whichever is freezing. Additionally, watch the clock of the machine and see if it keeps ticking. B00nie [H]F Junkie. Joined Nov 1, Messages 9, If you haven't updated the server but updated the client, chances are you run incompatible OS versions.

Microsoft made changes to RDP not too long ago that may have broken backwards compatibility. RDP is not very safe to use anyway, you should at minimum block it from wan side in your router. Mazzspeed 2[H]4U. Joined Dec 27, Messages 3, B00nie said:. Well that sucks about the open ports because I use it when away from home. Is there a more secure way to do that? And it is the client machine that is freezing. Server not being affected. So I disabled RDP ports and installed anydesk. Seems like the software is pretty hit and miss.

Most the time I get stuck at the "loading image" screen. This is over a gigabit network that I don't have any other problems with. Finally uninstalled it because I was getting annoyed at it not working. Mazzspeed said:. Last edited: Dec 30, When I login with anydesk while I am connected via RDP, it kills the RDP session, and then I see the windows login screen, when I push the little icon on the bottom right it starts to login and then sits there.

When I login withouth being connected via rdp I just hang at "conected, waiting for image". I think the problem is that there is no user logged in at this point, but shouldn't it still be able to log in? EDIT Apparently it doesn't like a machine with no monitor but there is a workaround.

Send "ctrl alt del", hit cancel, select "auto adapt screen resolution", and you should be in.

CISCO 3560 SOFTWARE UPGRADE

Very strange! I made an interesting find just before googling this issue and reading this article. Your information seems to be mostly correct, however there may be some exceptions to this behavior. While working on a clients workstation using teamviewer, i ran in to the same issue as you, i could open Kaspersky, but that was it, couldnt close it couldnt change any settings, nothing.

So i decided to take one last shot and opened a remote desktop session to their server and then opened a remote desktop session in to the PC. When i was done, i figured it was Teamviewer conflicting Kaspersky, so i googled it and found this article. I set teamviewer up on another PC in their office and enabled incoming lan connections, i then connected to the problem pc and was able to open Kaspersky and make changes without a problem… so It would seem that these restrictions are source based.

Thank you so much!! Thanks for info. I have same problem with one of my customer, so I remotely uninstall kaspersky. Nice antivirus, but strange self-defence. This is a very useful tip to me. Cos I faced same problem while i was working with my friends Laptop via team viewer. But I could not realize the problem that time. Ron Grainger 3 years ago. Malav Dhimmar 8 years ago. For example, when I type something outside on my host Anydesk, the words come on the client side and not on the host sides.

Another time, I moved my mouse on the host sides, but it moves on the client sides. The mouse and keyboard cannot go back to the host sides. The only way to resolve this is to press the power button on the host sides. Are there any solutions to this? Similar questions, but do not work: Anydesk is completly locking my Ubuntu I am also not sure what he means by "locking", so I created this question. Is your network connection stable?

A dodgy internet connection seems to manifest from the client side as the remote session freezing up though I know from people at the location that the remote host is responsive. Sometimes this persists after the network is re-established. You can reset this with sudo service anydesk restart and start a new session from the client.

There is also some condition where the client's mouse input will "lock out" the users at the remote end. It seems there is an interlock that prevents both parties from inputting at the same time, and occasionally it sticks. After the anydesk connection is close, the client computer will be unstuck. You can connect to anydesk again as usual. Ubuntu Community Ask!
